Commission Setup and Configuration
Before You Begin
- Please read through the commission overview page located here: Commission Overview
- If you decide to use the commission module we recommend testing all commission configuration changes in a non-production environment first. Once the setup has been reviewed and confirmed, the same configuration can be moved to Production.
Step 1: Confirm Backend Configuration Settings
“WARNING – Do not complete further steps until Step 1 has been completed”
- The backend commission configuration settings can only be updated by the Q360 Support team.
- Please email support@solutions360.com and request assistance with reviewing and updating the commission module configuration settings.
- Also request that Support confirm the Commission Module Background Job is enabled.
Global Configuration Settings
| Config Key | Description | Available Options | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| METHOD | Defines the financial base used for commission calculations. | BOOKING_GP = Gross Profit × Rate TOTALREVENUE = Revenue × Rate |
Use the option that matches your commission plan. If commissions are based on gross profit, use BOOKING_GP. If commissions are based on total revenue, use TOTALREVENUE. |
| PAYMETHOD | Defines when commission records become ready for payroll. | PAID = Invoice fully paid POST = Invoice posted to GL |
PAID is typically recommended because it is the most cash-flow friendly. |
| LOWEST_GM | Minimum gross margin percentage required for a commission record to be eligible. | Any numeric value, such as 0 or 15.00 | 0 is recommended if you want all records to appear and allow the commission plan rules to control actual payouts. |
| CUTOFFDATE | Excludes projects or invoices dated before this date. | Any valid date in YYYY-MM-DD format | Set this to your Q360 go-live date or the start of your fiscal year. |
| DRAWPERCENTAGE | Percentage of total commission prepaid when a project is booked. | Any numeric percentage, such as 0, 10, or 50 | 0 is recommended unless your company has a formal draw process. This avoids additional administrative complexity. |
| USETAXBOOKING | Controls whether Use Tax is included in the project Booking GP/GM calculation. | ON or OFF | OFF is recommended so the gross profit aligns more closely with the project Profit tab. |
| INVCLAWBACK | Allows negative net due amounts for returns, reductions, or margin erosion. | ON or OFF | ON is recommended if accurate financial true-ups are required. |
Record Type and Lifecycle Settings
| Config Key | Applies To | Description | Available Options | Recommendation |
| ENABLESPLIT | All Records | Enables Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary sales rep splits. | ON or OFF | ON |
| PROJECTACTIVESTATUS | Projects | Defines the project status that triggers the initial Booking commission advice record. | Any valid project status code, such as ACTIVE | ACTIVE |
| PROJCLOSE | Projects | Generates a final true-up entry when the project is financially closed. | ON or OFF | ON |
| ULORDERCOMMISSION | Orders | Includes standalone box sale orders that are not linked to jobs. | ON or OFF | ON, if order commissions are required |
| SERVCONTCOMMISSION | Contracts | Enables commission tracking for service contracts. | ON or OFF | Based on business need |
| CALLCOMMISSION | Calls | Enables commission tracking for service calls. | ON or OFF | Based on business need |
| WARRANTYCOMMISSION | Projects | Includes warranty or deferred items in commissionable totals. | ON or OFF | ON, if warranties affect sales rep compensation |
| ICOMMISSION | Projects | Generates individual commission advice records for Internal Change Orders. | ON or OFF | OFF is typically recommended if using Project Close for a cleaner final true-up process. |
| CCOCOMMISSION | Projects | Generates individual commission advice records for Customer Change Orders. | ON, OFF, or PROJECTRECALC | OFF is typically recommended if using Project Close for a cleaner final true-up process. |
| PROJECTINITIALCO | Projects | Includes existing ICOs and CCOs in the initial Booking commission advice record. | ON or OFF | OFF |
Step 2: Define a Commission Plan
Navigate to: Accounting > Commissions > Commission Plan
- Click the Add (+) icon to create a new commission plan.
- Enter a clear and descriptive Title for the plan, such as 2025 Tiered Sales Plan.
- Define the Start Date and End Date.
- Add Plan Items
These dates are mandatory. Commission records that fall outside the plan date range may generate with a $0.00 commission amount.
If your commission rates do not change annually, set a wide date range so the background job can always find an active plan for new records.
Important Date Logic for Project Bookings
For project bookings, Q360 evaluates the date the project reached the configured active status, usually ACTIVE.
If a project reaches the active status even one day before the plan start date, the project will not qualify for that plan’s rates.
Plan Item Setup
In the Plan Items grid, click Add (+) to define the calculation rules for each transaction type.
One commission plan can contain multiple document types and sale types.
Plan Item Field Definitions
| Field | Description |
| DocType | Select Project, Call, Contract, or Order. Do not select Invoice. Invoice commission records inherit rules from the parent record type. |
| Sale Type | Select All or choose a specific sale type, such as Design-Build. Avoid overlapping All with specific sale types for the same DocType unless intentionally designed. |
| Min Margin / Max Margin | Defines the gross margin percentage tiers. Make sure there are no gaps between tiers. For example, Tier 1 could be 0.00 to 20.00, and Tier 2 could be 20.01 to 40.00. |
| Rate Percent | Defines the commission percentage applied to the configured base, either gross profit or revenue. |
| Commissionable % | Typically set to 100 if the full base amount should be commissionable. |
| Quota Exceed Rate | If Q360 quota tracking is not being used, set this equal to the Rate Percent to avoid unintended $0.00 commission records. |
After entering the plan items, click Save.

Step 3: Associate the Plan with Sales Representatives
Navigate to: Accounting > Commissions > Commission Rate
This screen is used to assign commission plans to sales representatives and, if applicable, establish performance targets.
Assign the Commission Plan
- In the Rates grid, click Add (+).
- Select the sales representative who should be associated with the plan. You may also select All, if applicable.
- Select the commission plan that was created in Step 2.
- Click Save.
Important Plan Overlap Reminder
Q360 allows a sales representative to have multiple commission plans. However, plans should generally be assigned for non-overlapping periods.
If you are using a plan-switching method for accelerated rates, you must manually end the base plan and start the quota-achieved plan once the target has been met.

Step 4: Establish Quotas, If Applicable (Optional)
This step is optional and only required if your compensation model includes specific performance thresholds.
In the Quota grid in the commission rate screen:
- Click Add (+).
- Select the applicable Sale Type, such as Project, Order, or All.
- Enter the Start Date and End Date for the quota period.
- Enter the Quota Amount for the target revenue amount.
- Enter the Quota GP Amount for the target gross profit amount.
- Click Save.

*As booking records are approved, they will apply against the quota
Step 5: Review Commission Reports
Once the backend configurations, commission plans, sales rep assignments, and optional quotas have been set up, the Commission Background Job can begin generating commission records.
The background job can run at a desired cadence or manually, depending on the setup and support request.
The following reports can then be used to review commission activity:
- Commission Export (Accounting > Commissions > Commission Export): Used to review commission advice records generated by the system. This is typically the main report for reviewing commission records before they are approved or released. Please review the Commission Export page to understand the full lifecycle of commissions.
- Commission Accrual | Q0205: Used by finance to review commission liability, earned commission, paid commission, and remaining balances.
Additional Important Logic
Service Contracts
Service contracts are always based on top-line revenue regardless of method chosen as costs may not always be readily predicted.
